Hackers Admit: ‘We Are Scammers’ – Epic Games Hack Was a Fraud

Recently, a self-proclaimed group called Mogilevich claimed to have breached Epic Games servers, stealing a massive amount of data totaling 190 GB. Epic Games immediately launched an investigation to verify the truthfulness of these claims, denying any evidence of an attack.

However, the members of the Mogilevich group themselves have now confessed that the supposed hack on Fortnite and Epic Games Stores systems was fabricated. In a public statement, they explained the motives behind this hoax, admitting to being scammers.

Instead of actually breaching the company’s systems and stealing sensitive data such as passwords, payment information, and emails, as they previously claimed, the group revealed that their intention was to gain notoriety through this false claim. They confessed to not being specialized hackers in ransomware attacks but rather experienced scammers, using the name of Epic Games and other major companies to increase their visibility.

Mogilevich even shared a link supposedly leading to the stolen data, but it was actually just a statement revealing the fraud. They admitted to selling fictitious data obtained through their fake attacks, thereby making thousands of dollars in profit.

“You must be wondering why we did this, and now we’ll explain. In fact, we are not a ransomware group but rather professional scammers. None of the databases mentioned in our statements were real, as became evident recently. We used famous names to gain visibility quickly, not for fame, but to lure victims into our scams,” the group stated.

They also revealed that they claimed to have potential buyers for the fake data they were offering, aiming to sell it for the highest possible price, although they never had possession of real information.

“Now, the question is: why are we confessing all this instead of simply disappearing? We did this to explain our scam process. We don’t consider ourselves hackers but rather masters of fraud,” Mogilevich added.
